In an effort to foster both fundamental and applied IT research in Vietnam, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) are jointly organizing the 19th National Scientific Conference on Fundamental Research and Applications in Information Technology (FAIR’2026), in collaboration with the Information Technology Institute (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and HCMC University of Industry and Trade (HUIT).
The main topic of the 2026 conference is "Artificial Intelligence and Its Future Trends". However, consistent with the inclusive tradition of the FAIR series, submissions are welcomed across a wide range of topics in the field of Information Technology. This year’s conference receives academic sponsorship from four distinguished institutions in Information and Communication Technology: the University of Danang, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Thai Nguyen University of Information and Communication Technology, and the Institute of Information Technology – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The 19th Conference in the FAIR series (FAIR’2026) held on the campus of HCMC University of Industry and Trade on Thursday and Friday, October 8–9, 2026.

| A BRIEF HISTORY OF FAIR | |
| Between 2001 and 2003, the Natural Sciences Council—established by the Ministry of Science and Technology—generously supported fundamental research in various scientific fields. Particularly in the domain of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Information Technology committee under the Natural Sciences Council launched several major research programs, including: • Knowledge discovery and data mining techniques • Design and development of databases and data warehouses • Data mining methods and applications • Software engineering • Networking technologies • Artificial intelligence • Image recognition and processing • Soft computing techniques • Mathematical foundations of Information Technology In order to evaluate the progress in fundamental research and IT applications in Vietnam during this period, while also fostering discussions on emerging issues both nationally and internationally, and proposing directions for future research and collaboration, the Information Technology committee proposed the launch of a national scientific conference. This initiative led to the establishment of the National Conference on Fundamental and Applied IT Research (FAIR) in 2002. The founding Information Technology committee included the following nine distinguished members: • Prof. Dr. Sc. Bach Hung Khang • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Si Dam • Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Thi • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Ba • Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuc Hai • Prof. Dr. Sc. Hoang Van Kiem • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Toan • Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hai Khoi The first FAIR conference was held on October 4–5, 2003, at the Faculty of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi—now known as the University of Engineering and Technology.
